چکیده

Results of electron-proton inelastic scattering at 6' and 10' are discussed, and values of the structure function ~2 are estimated. If the interaction is dominated by transverse virtual photons, vW2 can be expressed as a function of v = 2M v/q within experimental errors for q2 & 1 (GeV/c)2 and &u &4, where v is the invariant energy transfer and q2 is the invariant momentum transfer of the electron. Various theoretical models and sum rules are briefly discussed.

Enhanced Structure Function Of The Nucleon From Deep Inelastic Electron-Proton Scattering

The proton structure function is re-deduced from the data of deep inelastic electron-proton scattering after enhanced correction that is made due to the multiple scattering effect. The Glauber approach is used to account for the multiple scattering of electron with the quark constituents of the proton. The results are compared with the prediction of the parton model. Appreciable deviation is ob...

A Different View of Deep Inelastic Electron-proton Scattering

Deep inelastic electron-proton scattering is analyzed in the target rest frame using a theoretical approach suitable to describe many-body systems of bound constituents subject to interactions. At large three-momentum transfer |q|, this approach predicts the onset of scaling in the variable ỹ = ν-|q|, where ν denotes the energy transfer. The present analysis shows that the data, plotted at cons...

INELASTIC ELECTRON-PROTON AND y-PROTON SCATTERING, ANDTHESTRUCTUREOFTHENUCLEON*

aA model for highly inelastic electron-nucleon scattering at high energies is studied and compared with existing data. This model envisages the proton to be composed of point-like constituents (“partons”) from which the electron scatters incoherently. We propose that the model be tested by observing y-rays scattered inelastically in a similar way from the nucleon. The magnitude of this inelasti...

RECENT THEORETICAL WORK ON e + e - AlNNIHILATION AND CONTINUATION FROM INELASTIC ELECTRON SCATTERING

Two lines of theoretical developments have emerged as a result of the observed scaling behavior in DIES (deep inelastic electron scattering). One is the parton model and the other is the light-cone algebra; and we ask what are their implications for the efecolliding beam cross sections that we’ve been learning about. The parton model, with its point-like constituents of the proton which scatter...

Deep inelastic scattering: Experiments on the proton and the observation of scaling

In late 1967 the first of a long series of experiments on highly inelastic electron scattering was started at the two-mile accelerator at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center (SLAC) using liquid hydrogen and, later, liquid deuterium targets. Carried out by a collaboration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and SLAC, the object was to look at large-energy-loss scatterTM ing o...
